It took less than 24 hours for the media to politicize the tragic events of Friday morning and draw a ridiculous link between the Tea Party and James Holmes, the man who killed 12 and wounded countless more in Aurora, Colorado. Yesterday on ABC’s Good Morning America, reporter Brian Ross incorrectly claimed that Holmes was a member of the Colorado Tea Party. Come to find out James Holmes is a pretty common name – even in Aurora, Colorado. The Holmes that Ross found while doing some “investigative reporting” is actually a 52-year old hispanic man. The Holmes who opened fire in an Aurora movie theater is a 24-year old caucasian. Great leg work, Brian.
This was the short exchange between the show host George Stephanopoulos and Ross:
Stephanopoulos: I’m going to go to Brian Ross. You’ve been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.
Ross: There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.
Stephanopoulos: Okay, we’ll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.
Thanks to the unparalleled journalism of Brian Ross, the other Jim Holmes was bombarded with phone calls, including those of the negative sort from vindictive leftists. ABC News did issue an apology – for what it’s worth.
The same liberal media tried to blame Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and the greater sphere of talk radio when former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot by nut-job gunman Jared Loughner. So, this is just par for the course.
The only question is going to be how much longer the media can get away with this before collapsing in on themselves. There is no longer reporting being conducted by the media. People like George Stephanopoulos and Brian Ross are political hacks (posing as reporters) that will use any incident to push their liberal agenda. Lest you doubt me, Stephanopoulos is still firmly ensconced in the Democrat tank; being a former Clinton acolyte – campaign advisor, Press Secretary, and Senior Advisor on Policy and Strategy, to be exact.
The sad part of all this is that you have journalists using a horrible tragedy to push a political agenda. People died as a result of what occurred in Aurora. Family members are still reeling from what happened. And here’s Stephanopoulos and Ross actually entertaining the idea that there’s some connection between the Tea Party and Friday morning’s shootings. It’s disgusting. It’s dishonest. It’s inexcusable.
