President Barack Obama’s allies in the press are clamoring for Tuesday night’s debate in Hempstead, New York as the Dear Leader hopes to springboard off of Joe Biden’s bully pulpit performance in Danville, Kentucky. Campaign advisers are promising a more “aggressive” tack from Obama which could force a bare-knuckled stance from Governor Mitt Romney. Paul Ryan was as polite as you could expect a politican to be on Thursday night, but don’t expect the same from Romney. If Obama takes the Biden approach in this debate, Romney will not take it lying down.
During the GOP primary debates, the former governor of Massachusetts showed that he had no qualms about fighting dirty; going toe-to-toe with Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum in debate after debate. Nor does Romney have any reservations about handling debate moderators. Jim Lehrer is likely still nursing his wounds. The leftists at MSNBC are hoping and pining for another scrappy performance, this time from their president, but Romney and his team are too smart and too savvy to allow lightning to strike twice.
If the polling data is any indication, Obama is on the ropes and the outcome of this debate is crucial in the battle over the much sought after swing states (not to mention the precious Independents). With the topics of this town hall-style debate being foreign and domestic policy, Romney will have countless opportunities to decimate the darling of the left. The current administration has supplied Romney with a virtual litany of ammunition; the unraveling of the Middle East, the Fast and Furious debacle, the failed attempts at jump-starting the green energy market, Joe Biden’s blaming of the intelligence community and the State Department for the attacks on the Libyan consulate…the list goes on and on.
Romney knows how to handle aggressive debate opponents along with liberal journalists posing as objective moderators. Regardless of how Obama conducts himself on Tuesday night, there’s no reason why Romney shouldn’t be able to put Obama down for the count a second time. This administration can only lie about their record and continue to blame George W. Bush. The power of the moron vote is rapidly increasing, but I still believe there are a majority of informed Americans who will be voting on November 6 and they’re not buying what the Obama ticket is selling.
