Bill Clinton visited the Coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg on November 2 to rally the troops for Barack Obama. Luckily, 912’s Sully Grasso also showed up with a camera and a simple question: “What do you know about Benghazi?”
On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Times dispatched Kameel Stanley to cover the dual marches that occurred in downtown St. Petersburg in honor of Trayvon Martin. Between the two events, demonstrators were only able to drum up about 200 people. This either means that most of the people in my hometown recognize idiocy when they see it or the National League of Christian Councils and the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement are lousy community organizers. Although Mitt Romney is favored to win today’s Sunshine State showdown, national excitement is high as voters clamor to see whether Romney does indeed pick up Florida’s 50 delegates later tonight. The Associated Press is reporting that Romney booked the Tampa Convention Center for his “night celebration” while canceling a rally scheduled for this morning. Newt Gingrich was scheduled to make a pit stop in Orlando at the First Baptist Church of Windermere before jetting off to Lakeland, Plant City, Celebration, and back to Orlando for his own end-of-the-night festivities at the Rosen Centre Hotel. Neither Ron Paul nor Rick Santorum will be in Florida for tonight’s results. Paul has already been focusing on the Maine caucuses, while Santorum has been tending to his three-year old daughter, Bella, who was hospitalized over the weekend.
